Remember…

“… of whom the world was not worthy” (Hebrews 11:38).

Preface: Today, I call on all of us to remember.  Yesterday was a sad day in this country.  Charlie Kirk, devout Christian, devoted husband and father, activist for truth and decency, was savagely slain in Utah.  We all know about this tragic event.  When I heard, I will confess that I wept.  I have listened to his broadcasts and watched his videos for years.  He was a bold witness for Christ and a skilled defender of truth.  He will be sorely missed by the church and in this nation.  To honor this departed man of God, I offer a piece I wrote many years ago about another martyr for the faith, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. But after reading about Bonhoeffer, please note my final thoughts about Charlie Kirk and September 11.

The Footsteps of the Prophet

(Introductory Note:  This Trogo is quite a bit longer than usual.  However, the nature of the subject requires a thorough treatment.  I hope you will find this piece beneficial.)

Life takes strange twists.  It has often been observed that truth is stranger than fiction, and indeed this is so.  For instance, this is the case in America’s (and many Christians’) current attitudes about Islam.  Allow me to explain.

The natural gut reaction of many people to the events of September 11 and the ensuing terrorism and violence that have followed has been an outcry and outrage against militant Islam.  Voices have been raised in anger and fear at the inherent violence of Islam.  Many have reacted very strongly.  In fact, in the aftermath of the various terrorist attacks on our nation, there have even been some who have taken matters into their own hands and angrily attacked any Muslim or Arab in sight.  Of course this latter action is reprehensible and unjustified.  Just because a person is Muslim, or from the Middle East, does mean they are vicious, cruel or hateful.  Not all Muslims are terrorists.  Not all people from the Middle East are even Muslim.  We must be fair, balanced and knowledgeable in our actions, words, and emotional response to what has occurred in our nation.  Reason, and a reasonable faith, call for this. A Mother’s Love

Introduction: Here is something a little bit different for your reading. This piece was written by my wife, Sue. For those who don’t know, I work full time at an international missions agency called Advancing Native Missions (ANM). Sue is here sharing about an experience she had at ANM not too long ago.

There was a missionary couple visiting ANM the day of one of our community Bible studies. Nothing unusual in that. There are frequently visitors on Thursday, and they are often invited to share about their ministry and what God is doing in their lives. This is a young couple with three children. They seemed loving, humble, kind and eager to tell others about Jesus. Continue reading
