Jonah and the Whale

Question: Do you believe that Jonah was really swallowed by a whale? Isn’t this just a story, and evidence that the Bible is a book of fairy tales?

My Answer: One of the most criticized portions of Scripture is the story of Jonah and his experience in being swallowed alive by a great sea creature. Some modern commentators and theologians avoid the issue by declaring that this story is only a myth, a parable of sorts. It has great merit as a teaching instrument, but it is not to be understood as history. What are we to think? Should we accept this story as being literally true? Or should we view it as a moral parable? Continue reading

In Defense of Dragons

I believe in dragons. No, I do not believe in unicorns, griffins, manitcores, or hippogriffs. I do not believe in sylphs, salamanders, gnomes or undines. I do not believe in fairies or elves (sorry Tolkien). I do not believe in the Minotaur, centaurs or satyrs. I certainly do not believe in the bogeyman, will-o-the-wisps, ghosts, or poltergeists. But, and I say this emphatically, I do truly and with certainty believe in dragons. I believe that they actually once existed on earth, and they may possibly still exist in remote and exotic places today. Continue reading

Why Do The Wicked Prosper?

Question: Why does God allow wicked people to flourish and prosper?

My Answer: We hear this question often in the Bible. Consider the words of the psalmist in Psalm 73:2-13. Asaph was so upset over seeing the prosperity of the wicked that he almost lost his faith in God! Continue reading

Group Snapshot: Black Muslims

Okay, you might want to sit down for this one… Here is the origin of the races of mankind. The black race is the direct creation of God/Allah. All living black men are direct descendents of a godly tribe called Shabazz. But as time progressed things began to go awry. The first mishap occurred 50,000 years ago when a mad scientist caused all black people’s hair to become kinky, just to cause them trouble. Years later another scientist named Yakub (the biblical Jacob) began experimenting with the creation of other races of people. He first created brown people, then red, then yellow. His last, and lowest creation, was the race of white men. White men were devils and full of evil. This creation occurred in the year 4004 B.C. The white devils were destined to rule the year for 6000 years, and then the rightful rule of the black race would be restored. The end of the 6000 years occurred in 1914. Continue reading

Is It Okay To Question?

Question: “Is It okay to question? Should Christians accept everything without question? Is it a sin to ask questions, to wonder, to doubt?”

Answer: Yes, it is okay to question, even in matters of faith. The Bible even gives us illustrations of great men of faith who asked questions. Consider the following examples from Scripture: David (Psalm 13), Job (Job 2:10, 42:1-8), John the Baptist (Matthew 11:2-3). Continue reading
