An Eagle Scout’s Stand for Righteousness

I wish you could have been there. It was a memorable event. Indeed, an unforgettable event. It was the Court of Honor for a young man who had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. I will refrain from using his name. He is rather modest, and I don’t want to cause him any embarrassment. However, at the same time I wish I could broadcast his name across the country. A young Christian man with such courageous virtue deserves to be honored, to be recognized.

The Court of Honor was impressive. It stirred my heart to see the ceremonious actions, the words of commendation, the rehearsal of the values and journeys of a scout. Finally, our young hero stepped forward to receive his due recognition and honor. The capstone of the occasion was his Eagle Scout speech. Wow! It was truly inspiring to witness this 16 year old young man of God declare his appreciation for scouting, his love for God, and his moral convictions. And to maturely, courageously announce due to those very same moral convictions that that day would be his last day of involvement in the Boy Scouts of America. In response to the recent decision of the BSA to admit homosexuals to their ranks, this new Eagle Scout boldly took a moral stand based on his principles and values, and thus was leaving the Scouts. There is moral disease that is robbing us of convictions, values, and truthfulness. It is draining off our integrity, killing our sense of righteousness, and undermining the proclamation of truth. It is a sickness that rots the very fiber of our being as a nation, as a people. It is nothing less than a plague of NICENESS. Continue reading

Snapshot: Cayce and the A.R.E.

He was known as the “Sleeping Prophet” because his “readings” were given while he was in a sleep-like trance. These readings at first mainly concerned health issues, but eventually they began to deal with theology, spiritual matters, past lives, and moral teaching. There were also sporadic prophecies of future events—such as the prediction that the lost Continent of Atlantis would arise from the ocean sometime in 1968 or 69. This demure, humble man from Kentucky would come to be hailed as one of the greatest psychics and “prophets” of the 20th century. His name was Edgar Cayce. Continue reading

Formerly “Home Sweet Home”

I am feeling nostalgic today… and my mind goes back to a place where we used to live. A very unusual place. So unusual that… well, let me explain.

First, you must understand that for about 6 years we lived in a small community in the mountains of southwestern Pennsylvania. Our house was only a few miles from the state lines for both West Virginia and Maryland. In less than five minutes we could be in either state. Although a rural community, we were not lacking in population; however, sometimes I felt that some of the population was lacking in… well, something. I am still not quite sure what. Continue reading
